Gaza deaths are now over 400 in addition to more than 2100 injured, many of them women and children.
There have also been deaths in Israel from Gaza rockets. However both the deaths and the violence are vastly disproportionate.
The killings and destruction have followed a long lasting blockade that has prevented UNRWA and other humanitarian groups from helping the 1.5 million Gaza population. The people are paying the price from the prolonged blockade, absence of basic needs and now a military escalation.
The UN Commissioner-General (UNRWA), Karen AbuZayd, has expressed her horror regarding the “extensive destruction” in the Gaza Strip and the “terrible loss” in human life.
In response, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Livni has incredibly informed the world that: “There is no humanitarian crisis”.
How can the conflict be ended?
FreeGaza.info believes that any truce or cease-fire must not only see an ending to all violent acts by both Palestinians and Israel, but must also permanently end the siege of Gaza by both Israel and Egypt. It is unacceptable for any people to have to live between starvation and bombardment.
