Gaza Blockade Creates Tunnel Demand

Uncategorized Add comments

Haaretz reports today that Israeli Air Force Commander Major General Ido Nehushtan doubts the efficacy of bombing tunnels along the Philadelphi Route in southern Gaza.

He is referring to several hundred tunnels built along the Gaza Egypt border in response to Israel’s 19 month long blockade of Gaza.

Of course it is wrong to assume that the tunnels are used only for smuggling arms. It is well known they are also used for smuggling fuel, food and everything else you can imagine.

And, whether bombing continues or not, FreeGaza.info believes the tunnel smuggling will certainly continue (and flourish) for as long as the Gaza blockade policy is pursued by Israel, Egypt, USA and EU.

The blockade policy — which incidentally is illegal under humanitarian law as it amounts to collective punishment — creates the demand and the tunnels are created and re-created in order to supply Gaza’s 1,5 million citizens.
