Earlier today about 60 American built Israeli war planes including F-16 bombers pounded targets across the Gaza Strip killing more than 200 people according to local medics.
Rather than targetting those in Gaza launching the rockets into Israel, it appears the bombers went instead for the Hamas controlled police force which bore the brunt of fatal casualties.
However, women and children have also been killed plus some 700 others wounded by at least 30 Israeli bombs and missiles.
Israel has said that their operations “will continue, will be expanded, and will deepen if necessary”.
In terms of casualties, it is the worst attack in Gaza for more than 40 years.
Meantime, Washington put the responsibility for violence on Hamas saying the USA “strongly condemns the repeated rocket and mortar attacks against Israel and holds Hamas responsible for breaking the ceasefire and for the renewal of violence in Gaza. The ceasefire should be restored immediately.”
The White House however did not call for an end to the Israel Air Force strikes, nor did it call for Israel to lift the siege crippling the 1.5 million Gaza population.
FreeGaza.info comment:
The coming days will show whether Hamas will be weakened by Israel’s attacks or whether, as we suspect, it will be strengthened. Either way, the only reasonable way forward is for rocket fire from Gaza to halt, Israeli attacks to halt and for the siege of the Gaza strip to be lifted forthwith. It is unacceptable for any people to have to live between starvation and bombardment.
