The human rights group, Free Gaza Movement, has announced that it is sending its boat, “DIGNITY” today on an emergency mercy mission to Gaza loaded with 3 to 4 tons of urgently needed medical supplies.

On board will be four physicians, including a surgeon and Cyprus Member of Parliament as well as former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and Sami al-Hajj, Al Jazeera TV cameraman and former detainee at Guantanamo.

The medical supply list includes bandages, splints and rubber gloves, items that any community should have access to, but, because of Israel’s months old siege these supplies are no longer available.

Eliza Ernshire, one of the Free Gaza organizers said: “We have calls for surgeons willing to go into Gaza and work there throughout this crisis. The doctors inside Gaza are exhausted and unable to cope with the number of wounded. We will do our best to send in the mv. DIGNITY as often as we can over the next
few weeks, bringing in physicians and medical supplies.

The Free Gaza Movement, a human rights group, sent 2 boats to Gaza in August 2008. These were the first international boats to land in the port in 41 years. Since August four more voyages were successfully undertaken, bringing Parliamentarians, human rights workers, physicians, and other dignitaries to witness the effects of Israel’s siege policies on the civilians of Gaza.
